Osun awards N1bn contract for 24 rural electrification projects

aregbesolaABOUT 24 rural electrification projects worth N1,059,427,861 have been awarded to contractors by the Osun State government.

Three of the projects, estimated at N83,669,378 million would be executed through direct labour, while the remaining 21, worth N975,758,482 million would be handled by different contractors.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the state executive council gave approval to the contract the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Sunday Akere said that 30 per cent mobilisation would be paid to the contractors and the completion period is nine months.

He said that the projects were in line with the policy of the state government to ensure that all part of the state enjoy steady supply of electricity, so as to assist in actualising the administration’s Six-Point Integral Action Plan.

Besides, Akere revealed that the council considered the award of N878,903,767 million contract for the completion of the external works of the Osun State Secretariat car park, pool area and pond lake side utilities, saying that this was done to give the secretariat befitting natural outlook.

The contracts were awarded to Messrs Techno Katagun Construction Company Ltd, while Messrs Archi Consult Ltd would handle the consultants work for the project at a cost of N29,711,634 million

He noted that 30 per cent the contract sum would be paid to the contractors for mobilisation money, adding that the completion period for the project is nine months from the date of mobilisation.

The commissioner further stated that the award of N73,663,445 million contract for the completion of outstanding work on Dams’ gates at Ede and Eko-Ende Water works to ensure uninterrupted supply of potable water.

  1. When a dog wags its tail at the right time and barks appropriately, the hunter feels comfortable. As much as the intention here is not to praise-sing this governor, it will be unfair to say he has not done right when he has made it open to the public that his government is trying to make electricity available to the public. What a great idea!

    However, the public needs to know the following:

    1. Will the contact be implemented within a year?

    2. When will water flow like it used to be in 1960s and 1970s or better?

    The government should always give clear and realistic message to the public.
