NCP Chief Cautions Opposition Against 2011
Feb 18th, 2010 | By admin | Category: Tits BitsElectorate in Osun State have been forewarned to prepare for legislative elections in 2011, so that the cabal that has been holding the country to ransom should not be allowed again to rig its ways to power.
Disclosing this last weekend in Osogbo, Osun State at a lecture organized by a pressure group, Osun State Opinion Leaders’ Forum (OSOLEF), Osun State Chairman, National Conscience Party (NCP), Alhaji Waheed Lawal said the people must stand up to the election riggers in the coming polls.
The rights activist turned politician stressed that the previous elections and rerun polls in the state had shown that there would never be a credible election in the country except the people rise up to defend their mandate.
Lawal x-rayed the statistics of repression against the dissent voice in the state, saying that Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola-led administration has demonstrated its capacity to kill and maim for rigging of any elections in the state.
“Let it be known that there would be elections in 2011 and we are all going to partake in it. That shows we have to brace up for the challenges ahead and find a way of tackling the regressive forces that would still want to unleash violence to bulldoze their ways to power again”, Lawal insisted.
Speaking on the state of economy in the state, the NCP chief lamented that the government had deliberately pushed the 70 per cent of the population into abject poverty, arguing that lack of enabling environment was responsible for the poverty.
He said: “You can see that only politicians in the corridor of power in the state are at the expense of the taxpayers, but it is saddened that the people that are bearing the brunt are left in abject poverty and I am of the opinion that that the cause of the poverty must be hanged on the neck of the Oyinlola administration in the state, because there is no enabling environment.”
Reacting on the defence of the mandate, the state President of the group, Pastor Sola Ademubo said that the group believes in credible elections as the only way to elect leaders who would be responsible and responsive to the peoples’ plight.
“We have realized that credible election is the only panacea to the leadership problem be-deviling the nation, particularly Osun State and we shall strive to achieve a credible polls in future”, Adebambo assured.
The group then advocated total overhauling of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arguing that the Professor Maurice Iwu-led administration at the commission had proven that it could not sufficiently conduct hitch-free elections in the country.
