No Crisis In ACPP – Chairman Replies Detractors

Contrary to the impression created by one community tabloid in Osogbo, Osun State that the conglomerate of political parties in the state, Alliance of Collaborating Political Parties (ACPP) was in disarray following the massive defection of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) members to Action Congress (AC) in Ede, Ede North Local Government Council Area of the state recently, the State Chairman of the latter party who doubles as the State Chairman of the ACPP, Alhaji Sule Alao has said the crisis only existed in the imagination of the writer of the story.

It would be recalled that the Osogbo newspaper reported that Alao was bickering over the defection of his members to the AC in his Local government council area on the argument that he was stabbed at the back by the AC, for snatching his members despite the fact he was supporting the governorship candidate of the AC, Engineer Rauf Aregbesola.

Speaking to OSUN DEFENDER, Alao reiterated that there was no crisis in the ACPP in the state, submitting that the crisis only existed in the imagination of the writer of the story, arguing that the defection of some people to the party of their choice was constitutionally guaranteed, noting that would never cause disaffection between him and other parties’ leaders in the fold of ACPP.

According to him: “I have read the tabloid and I could not reconcile the story with what was reported, because there is no crisis in ACPP at all, but I think the crisis only exists in the imagination of the writer of that story.”

In his reaction on the development, the State Secretary of the group, Comrade Rufus Oyatoro of the Labour Party said all members of the group were informed about the constitutional rights of an individual, saying that the chairman of the group would understand that the defectors only exercised their rights to join any party of their desire, saying that as the secretary of the group, he was not aware of any crisis in the fold.

Oyatoro then said the publication would be deliberated upon at the meeting of the group, arguing that if the political leaders in the group wanted the story to be ignored, so as not to dignify the rumour mill, according to him, the group may let it go, noting that any member of the public that take such a story serious should disabuse their minds.

“We will deliberate on it at our meeting and take a common stand, but our chairman wanted us to ignore it and if all other members want it that way we may elect to let it go not to dignify the rumour mill”, Oyatoro submitted.

Another prominent member of the group, Alhaji Waheed Lawal of the State National Conscience Party (NCP) heaped the blame over the development on the embattled ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), arguing that the party has been labouring very hard to dismember the group, asserting that there could be no reason for crisis in the ACPP.

According to Lawal: “We could not be dismembered by the PDP because our bond is principle not money. Money is the only thing the PDP knows and that is why it rears thugs like cattle. So, there could not be a crisis in the ACPP, because we all understand our differences.”
