Oyinlola In Soup: Over Sales Of Governorship Form In Osun

When it was reported that governorship aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State had been hoodwinked to start collecting forms for elective offices in the state, the party headquarters in Abuja reportedly shouted blue murder, but an authoritative information at the disposal of OSUN DEFENDER has revealed that the national leadership of the party has read a riot act to the embattled Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola over the development.
It would be recalled that the governorship aspirants, senatorial aspirants and the House of Representatives aspirants were made to cough-out N3 million, N2 million and N1.5 million respectively; while the House of Assembly and council chairmanship aspirants were made to pay N500,000 each, when councillorship aspirants paid N250,000 in the process.
It is on record that the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Peter Babalola, Senator Iyiola Omisore and former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode amongst others have paid for the governorship forms with fanfare in the previous weeks.
According to a report from Wadata Plaza, the headquarters of the party in Abuja, the rattled Osun State’s chief executive had been asked to stop the succession plan he has been putting in place, spanking him for flouting the directives of President Umar Musa Yar’ Adua as touching the 2011 elections.
Findings further revealed that Oyinlola went to the national office of the party in Abuja last week to intimate the party about the rerun election of the sacked Senator Omisore as a leader of the party in the state with a view to soliciting support for the return bid of the Ife-born politician.
Before stating his case, the leadership of the party demanded to know why the governor gave the go-ahead to the state leadership of the party to embark on the sales of governorship form, a situation that instantly pushed the governor in a very tight-corner, as he could not respond on the issues raised.
Raising an eye-brow, the leadership of the party expressed its displeasure for the illegal succession plan of the governor, saying that it could not come to term with the motive behind the plan, especially when his election is still being challenged by the opposition at the election petitions retrial tribunal.
It was gathered that another national leader of the party at the meeting wondered why the state chapter of the party was striving to isolate itself from the national office, arguing that the president had earlier given a directive that all actions on the 2011 be suspended for now.
A close source at the meeting also confided in OSUN DEFENDER that another party chief specifically queried the rattled governor to brief the party why the state chapter under his watch elected to sell governorship forms amongst the other states in the Federation.
It was learnt that when Oyinlola was trying to come up with an alibi, one of the party chieftains then asked why he and his deputy went ahead to obtain senatorial forms respectively, demanding to know where the money realized from the sales of forms was kept, to which he (Oyinlola) could not provide any reasonable answer.
In a riot act, the party then ordered that the money collected from the aspirants be refunded with immediate effect, saying that the action of Osun State chapter of the party left a sour taste in the mouth.
According to a national newspaper which further investigated the development, the aspirants have not been given back their money despite the directive of the leadership of the party to the state chapter, suggestive that the aspirants were afraid to step on the toes of the leadership of the party in the state.
All efforts to speak with some of the affected aspirants proved abortive, for they were afraid that they could be reprimanded on the issue.
