Addressing journalists after the 21st Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Sunday Akere said that the council has awarded a contract in the sum of N17.5billion for the rehabilitation of Igbajo-Oke-irun-Iresi road; Gbongan-Odeyinka-Orile-Owu-Araromi-Owu-Ajegunle, linking Ijebu-Igbo road; Gbongan to Ife-Ibadan express road junction; Ijebu-Jesa-Iloko-Iwaraja road; Ijebu-Ijesa-Ijeda-Ijesa-Iloko-Ijesa to Ilesa-Akure express road and Ijeda-Ijesa to Erinmo-Ijesa roads.
The contract, which was awarded to MssrsHongey International Nigeria Ltd, according to him, has the completion period of 18 months, saying that the contractor was expected to start work immediately at the three sites, which are Igbajo, Gbongan and Ijebu-Ijesa.
Akere noted that the mobilization fee of 15 per cent would be paid to the contractor to start the job, while the balance would be spread over a period of three years.
Also, the council approved the award of contracts for the rehabilitation of 21 selected roads within Osogbo, the state capital, saying that the roads were awarded to Messrs RATCON Construction Company Ltd in the sum of N3.9billion with the completion period of nine months.
Some of the 21 roads, according to him are Old Coca-Cola-Capital Hotel road; Capital Hotel-Tinumola Estate-Oroki Estate linking Ilobu road; Gbodofon-Jolayemi-Gbaemu junction roads; Gbaemu-Oluode-Elelede junction linking Borepo Supermarket area along Ayetoro; John Mackay-Gbeja-Oke-baale road; Kola-Balogun road junction to Fiwasaye; Oja-Oba-Osun groove road, with the extension to Plantation area; Station road-Fagbewesa-Odi-Olowo junction road; Alaafia Street-Church Street linking Awolowo way in Osogbo, among others.
The commissioner also disclosed that the council has upwardly reviewed the contract sum for the rehabilitation of Ilesa township roads from N3,323,274,086.00 to N3.7 billion, saying that the review was aimed at supporting the quality and standard of job expected to be carried out.
He stated that the review followed the complaint by the company handling the project, Mssrs RATCON Construction Company Ltd that the approved sum was not realistic and would not be able to support the quality and standard of the job expected.
Also disclosing that the council was briefed about the report of the just concluded legislative summit on Regional Integration for the South West states, held at Ibadan, Oyo State, the commissioner stated that the executive council commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola for the leading roles he played at the summit.
He disclosed that at the end of the summit, all the states in the region, particularly the ones under the controlled of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) have adopted the Osun State Anthem and Logo, as the South-West anthem and logo, saying that henceforth, the anthem and the logo are no longer for Osun alone, but for the entire region.
Meanwhile, the council, Akere said, has resolved that every necessary step should be taken to ensure that all the local government councils in the state, take the issue of environmental cleanliness as a matter of duty, as it has henceforth become their responsibilities.
He said: “With time, we are going to see that we come up with an idea of competitive prize that at the end of each month, we will be giving the best local government in the area of sanitation prizes. We have also decided that there should be environmental sanitation of the offices every Thursday, between the hours of 8.am and 10.am”.
The commissioner further disclosed that the enumeration of the dilapidated buildings that are being targeted for demolition for the safety of the people of the state will commence immediately.
