Subsidy: Jonathan Has Committed Impeachable Offence – CDHR•It Is Satanic – NCP

The Osun State Chairman of the Committee for the Defence of Human Right, (CDHR), Comrade Rufus Oyatoro, has called on the National Assembly, to immediately commence the process of impeaching President Goodluck Jonathan, for removing the fuel subsidy.

He said the removal of subsidy on petroleum product was a breach of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and affront on the National Assembly members, who are yet to approve the removal.

Oyatoro made this call while reacting to the removal of fuel subsidy by Jonathan. He described it as a callous gift to the Nigerianpeople in the New Year and charged the people to “be expecting the worst from Jonathan this year.

The CDHR Chairman said there is no transparency in the removal of the subsidy and challenged the President to prove otherwise, whether subsidy existed or not, arguing that “the whole policy is a fraud”.

“Apart from the illegality of the removal, when the President wanted to remove the subsidy, he has to explain to Nigerians, the alternatives, not to subject our fates to marketers.

“Jonathan deserves to be impeached for flouting the National Assembly’s directive and daring the Nigerianpeople. The action of the President was a clear indication that the government has no feelings for the common man, if it could impose such hardship on the people of this country”.

He vowed that the organization will embark on mass protest, to resist the removal and urged the people to support the labour and the civil societies in resisting the obnoxious policy.

Also the Osun State Chairman of the Alliance for Collaborating Parties and the State Chairman of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Alhaji Waheed Lawal described the removal as wicked and satanic.

“This is a confirmation that Jonathan has nothing good for the people of this nation and anybody who wants to impoverish the people of Nigerian is our enemy. They are just hell-bent on victimizing the people.”

He said the opposition party will resist the removal, stressing; “it cannot stay, this is serious a burden on the people.’’ Lawal said.

It would be recalled that Reginald Stanley, Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) formally announced the commencement of formal removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS),

Stanley based the announcement on the powers conferred on the agency by the law that established it, in compliance with Section 7 of PPPRA Act, 2004 and consultation with various stakeholders.

As at Press time, the price of PMS per litre in the state capital, Osogbo still ranges between N138 to N150 in the state capital which has drastically increased the price of every commodity.
