…Say Jonathan ’ll account for ‘ourwomen and children someday’

Northern Elders Thursday spurned the benevolence of President Goodluck Jonathan in ordering the
release of terror suspects from prisons across the region, saying that he would one day made to account for the woman and children seized by security agents based on unverified terrorism charges.

The group also condemned the recent threat by ex-militant leader, Dokubo Asari to match
the opposition bullet by bullet if Jonathan was not re-elected in 2015.

The northern elders are miffed that the Federal Government under President Jonathan allowed innocent
women and children, who should be spared even in times of war, to be taken captive and incarcerated in dehumanising conditions for many months without trial.

The elders, who spoke to Vanguard through their spokesman, Prof Ango Abdullahi, noted with dismay that the administration had allowed innocent women and children to suffer untold hardship for offences they did not commit.

“Let me tell you that what the government did by ordering the release of suspected terrorists was
borne out of shame and guilt being suffered by it for clamping innocent women and children into detention camps or what you may call Nigeria’s ‘Guantanamo Bay’, which are scattered all over the place,” Adbullahi said.

“We note with delight that at last common sense has prevailed and the embattled families have
regained their freedom. But we hasten to add that this government must account for the women and children from the north, who they took into unwarranted detention. As far as we are concerned, the release of the so-called terror suspects should have been done long ago.”

The NEF took very serious exception to the latest threat by militant leader, Dokubo Asari to match
the opposition bullet by bullet if Jonathan was not re-elected in 2015, saying that it was a threat to national security.

“From the antecedents of Asari Dokubo, we believe that he is making these empty boasts apparently
because of the filthy lucre he is getting from pipeline contracts and the promise of more. But we can bet Nigerians that he would be the first person to flee to the creeks if the war he is threatening breaks out”, the group note

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of engaging in total deceit by saying the democratic structure in the states where he has declared a state of emergency will be kept intact, when in fact he has grabbed power in the states and castrated democracy there.

In a statement issued in Kaduna on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party quoted from the President’s speech to the nation on May 14th, thus: ”The details of this Proclamation will be transmitted to the National Assembly in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution. But in the meantime, let me make it clear that within the purview of this Proclamation, the Governors and other political office holders in the affected states will continue to discharge their constitutional responsibilities.”

It however said the gazette published by the Federal Government on the declaration showed that the President has virtually eviscerated the democratic structure and stripped the political office holders of their constitutional responsibilities, thereby reversing the assurance he gave in his speech on the declaration.

ACN also warned that unless this despotic tendency is checked, nothing prevents the President, in the name of the ongoing fight against Boko Haram, from extending this power grab to other states that catch his fancy.

So far, about seven children reportedly stolen from their parents’ homes in Lagos and other parts of the country have been recovered from their new homes in Imo, Anambra and Delta states.

One of the stolen children, Ezeaka Uchenna (4) was picked from his parents’ home, Madu Street, Jakande Ojo, Ajagbadi area of Lagos by one of the suspects, Adaeze Mba, on March 18, 2013 .

Adaeze who packed into same compound with the Ezeakas in January 2013, was said to have gone to purchase tapioca from Uchenna’s mother that fateful day, only to abscond with the child. The couple immediately moved out of the area and allegedly sold the child to a couple in Obosi, Anambra State for N600,000.

However, during investigation, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, while parading the suspects, yesterday, at the Command’s headquarters, Ikeja, said the policemen acting on a tip-off stormed Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State where the couple were arrested.

“They confessed to have sold the child to one Mrs Benedict at Asaba, Delta State. We proceeded to Asaba where Mrs Benedict was arrested. She made a confessional statement that she buys and sells children to barren women and that she had sold Uchenna to one Mrs Patricia at Obosi in Anambra State.

“Investigation revealed that the couple had earlier stolen Goodluck Amaechi (3) and Promise Amaechi of same parents in Imo State and sold to Mrs Benedict. Mrs Bendict confirmed their statements and we proceeded to Obosi where the children were recovered from one Church of Goodness Motherless Babies Home.”

Adaeze blames devil

Pregnant Adaeze who hails from Mbatolu Local Government Area of Imo State blamed her indulgence on the devil and her husband, disclosing that they have been in the illicit act for five years.

“Please forgive me. I was talked into it by my husband. He asked me to get a child for him that he would pay me N400,000. When I asked what he wanted to do with the children, he assured me it was not for ritual purpose that his boss, Mrs Benedict takes them to motherless babies home.

Our Modus operandi

“Our targets are usually couples with more than three children. What we do is to move into an area, stay for about two to three months to get quainted with the people and immediately we got any child, we would leave the vicinity for another area where we are not known. We usually rent single room apartments without furnishing them.”

Corroborating her claim, her husband, Mba, said he ventured into the act when his sand dredging business was no longer lucrative.

He said: “When I complained to a friend, he introduced me to Mrs Benedict and since I met her, my life never remained the same.”

He said a male child was more expensive than female, disclosing that Madam Benedict paid him her as much as N600,000 for a male child and four N400,000 for female. But for each child brought by his wife, he said he used to make N200,000 gain.

“What we do is immediately we succeed in stealing a child, we send him/her to my boss who in turn sell to motherless babies home and to barren women. I was responsible for my landlord’s missing children. I sold them for N400,000 each in Mbatolu, Imo State.”

How we arrested Benedict —Police

Vanguard gathered that Mrs Benedict was arrested after the policemen who posed as pregnant women called her on phone to inform her that they had a baby boy for sale. But on arriving the designated point in Asaba, Delta State, the suspect who sensed trouble was said to have zoomed off with one of the police women in her car, in a bid to escape but was overpowered.

The suspects, according to Braide, would be charged to court soon.

On her part, the woman whom the couple sold 4-year-old Uchenna to begged the world to forgive her that she opted to buy the child following her inability to give birth to a child of her own.

“ I was married for 21 years without a child to call mine. Someone introduced me to Benedicta and when I told her I needed a child, she requested for N600,000 but I told her I could not afford that amount. She later called me to meet her at the River Niger bridge at Onitcha. On getting there he handed over the child to me. I told her he was too big but she said that was the only one she had.

I changed Uchenna’s name to Amarachi and enrolled him in a school where I pay N50,000 per term”, said the widow who simply gave her name as Patricia.

On her part, 35 year-old Benedicta Ogbonna, who is a mother of four said she was only involved in the act to help barren women. Asked why she did not offer her own children for sale, she kept mute.

But there is one woman in this universe who claims she wants to be less attractive, because apparently it’s a rough being pretty.

More Living Beauty: Get instantly younger eyes

33-year-old Laura Fernee blames her good looks for a host of problems in her life, including her unemployment. Fernee says she was forced to quit her job after being constantly harassed by male co-workers and dealing with female co-workers who were jealous of her beauty. Now, Fernee lives in an apartment paid for by her parents and hasn’t held a job in two years. But she is also claiming it’s simply not her fault.

“I’m not lazy, and I’m no bimbo. The truth is my good looks have caused massive problems for me when it comes to employment, so I’ve made the decision that employment just isn’t for me at the moment,” Fernee says, according to the Daily Mail. “It’s not my fault … I can’t help the way I look.”

She says she endured constant harassment in regards to her face and body, while co-workers ignored her professional achievements. “Male colleagues were only interested in me for how I looked. I wanted them to recognize my achievements and my professionalism, but all they saw was my face and body,” she says. “Even when I was in a laboratory in scrubs with no make-up, they still came on to me because of my natural attractiveness. There was nothing I could do to stop it.”

“Indiscipline pervades our life so completely that one may be justified in calling it the condition par excellence of contemporary Nigerian society”- Chinua Achebe, The Trouble with Nigeria.

Prof. Chinua Achebe, literary giant, celebrated author, humanist and patriot par excellence, who was buried yesterday, was Nigeria’s gift to Africa, and indeed, the world. Like most people, I first encountered Achebe through his numerous books before I met him in person. I shall return to the unforgettable encounter with him four years ago.

Anywhere you go around the world, there are certain things about Nigeria that feature prominently in conversations with those who want to know about the country: corruption, the various forms of advance fee fraud or 419 as it is known locally, ethnic/religious strife, football – when Eagles were really super, and of course, Chinua Achebe or Things Fall Apart, the literary classic that has sold millions of copies and has been translated into more than 50 languages.

A decade ago, I was in the tiny Caribbean Island of Haiti where I had gone to work with and report on people living with the dreaded HIV/AIDS. Amongst the first persons I met in the rundown capital, Port-au-Prince, was a Haitian dentist. Immediately I introduced myself as a Nigerian journalist, the first question he asked, to my utter surprise, was “Do you know Agbani Darego?” I had been away from Nigeria for some time and did not know much about Miss Darego (Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, 2001) though I had read a report of her being the first Black African to be crowned Miss World in 2001.

I answered my interlocutor in the affirmative. He gushed about how beautiful Miss Darego was and Nigerian women were in general. He said he had met a few while studying dentistry in the US. Next question, Chinua Achebe. Of course I knew Achebe. I had read Things Fall Apart, but had not met its celebrated author. My friend then went on to tell me his Things Fall Apart story.

I have had many such encounters, the latest being during a study tour of Kenya in June 2012. It is mark of the greatness of Achebe and the impact of his literary prowess. There are a few Nigerians I grew up admiring. Achebe was one of them. The others being the literary genius, Prof. Wole Soyinka, the iconoclast Prof Chinweizu, and my ideological mentor, Dr. Edwin Madunagu. I read most of their work and followed their activities closely.

For some reason, in my young mind, I felt Achebe was not “political” enough. Then I read The Trouble with Nigeria. It reminded me of my political bible, The Communist Manifesto. You could read it a million times over and it would appear fresh each time because of its eternal verities. Achebe believed in Nigeria. That much was evident in his statement that, “There is nothing basically wrong with the Nigerian character. There is nothing wrong with the Nigerian land or climate or water or air or anything else”.

However, Achebe did not let his love for Nigeria blind him to the fact that, “Nigeria is not a great country. It is one of the most disorderly nations in the world. It is one of the most corrupt, insensitive, inefficient places under the sun. It is one of the most expensive countries and one of those that gives least value for money. It is dirty, callous, noisy, ostentatious, dishonest and vulgar. In short, it is among the most unpleasant places on earth”.

Three decades after Achebe wrote those words, Nigeria remains a country adrift, a soulless nation where rulers pervert justice and babies are bought and sold like commodities. Today, ethnic bigots, religious zealots and all manner of charlatans and imbeciles bestride our political, economic and social space.

Four years ago, my organisation, the African Centre for Media & Information Literacy, launched a project titled “Make Your Votes Count” as part of efforts to conscientize Nigerians, particularly our youth, on the need for active participation in the electoral process by voting and protecting their votes. We had gotten permission from some of the personalities we used in the promotional posters and banners, including Profs. Wole Soyinka and Pat Utomi. We needed to get in touch with Prof. Achebe whose image we had also used.

So when I received information that Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, was hosting the first ever Achebe Colloquium on Africa in December, 2009, I went in search of Achebe. I arrived New York City in early December 2009, in a whirlwind tour of the US which took me to Washington DC, Maryland, Boston and Providence, to promote our project. That was when the Turai Yar’Adua cabal in Nigeria was running amok.

Omoyele Sowore, the irrepressible publisher of Saharareporters.com hosted me. An interview at Saharareporters’ studios was followed by a joint interview on the situation in Nigeria at the National Public Radio (NPR). I left Sowore to pursue my other programmes. We connected again at Boston’s Logan International Airport a few days later on our way to the Achebe Colloquium.

We were joined in the one hour drive from Boston to Providence by Prof. Richard Joseph, the John Evans Professor of International History and Politics at Northwestern University, Illinois, USA. Known as the “father of prebendalism”, Prof Joseph, an expert on African governance, political economy, and democratization, was at one time a lecturer in political science at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and University of Khartoum, Sudan.

Expectedly, our discussion focused on the situation in Nigeria; how a country with so much promise had been brought to it knees because of bad leadership. I arrived the Achebe Colloquium with so much foreboding. I didn’t know if I would be able to see Achebe and present my “gift”. I shared my apprehension with a former schoolmate, E.C. Osondu, an assistant professor of literature and resident of Providence who said he felt Achebe would like the poster we made in his honour. I also talked to Sowore who agreed to introduce me to one of Achebe’s sons, Chidi. As it turned out, my worry was misplaced.

The introduction done, Chidi, who obviously was impressed with what I wanted to share with his famous father, asked me to wait for an opportunity to approach Achebe once the crowd around him had thinned out. Getting the crowd around Achebe to ease off was not going to be an easy task, but I was prepared to wait. Prof. Soyinka, Achebe’s archenemy in the eyes of “literary hustlers and motor-park intellectuals”, walked in and exchanged pleasantries with Prof. Achebe who was in a wheelchair at the back of the hall. Other dignitaries followed as participants trickled in.

I did eventually get a chance to introduce myself and my mission to Prof. Achebe. I told him how honoured we were to have his words and image as one of the faces of our electoral project. I presented the colourful posters to him and just as I was thinking of the right words to convey our apology for not seeking his permission, he looked up at me and in a measured tone said, “I like this. I’ll keep it”. I handed him extra copies which he placed on the table in front of him. He talked briefly about why we needed to get our electoral process right. I was elated. Of course, I didn’t miss the photo opportunity, a request Achebe graciously granted. I knew how busy he was and I did not want to abuse the privilege. Mission accomplished, I took my seat amongst other participants.

The 2009 Achebe Colloquium on Africa with the theme “A Nation in Crisis and the Urgency of National Reform” was well attended and a huge success. Nigerians at the event included Prof. Okey Ndibe, Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu, former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra State, Prof. Bolaji Aluko, VC, Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State and Emeka Ihedioha, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives. The communiqué at the end of the Colloquium noted that “elections in Nigeria have become progressively worse in quality over the years, and that this fact has gravely affected the country’s international strategic significance”.

I left the Achebe Colloquium fulfilled. Achebe was a dogged fighter. He taught us courage, sacrifice and optimism even in the face of adversity; he taught us love for country, not in the manner our rulers have debased the term and made us a laughing stock around the world. We should, therefore, celebrate Achebe in death rather than mourn him. While celebrating Achebe, we need to discover “where the rain started beating us” as a nation. We need to have a genuine and peaceful national dialogue which Achebe so eloquently espoused rather than the current monologue of threats and bombs.

I was thinking of approaching Achebe to write a blurb for my new book, Nigeria is Negotiable, when I received the news of his death. For Nigeria, Africa and humanity in general, Achebe’s death is a huge loss. It is sad that many of those whom Achebe had nothing but contempt for while he was alive for the way they desecrated our nation are the ones crying loudest and lining the streets to honour him in death.

My utmost hope is that nobody will mourn all those who have brought us to this sad end; those who make our women die at childbirth and children from preventable diseases; those who have turned our young men to drug addicts, kidnappers, militants and terrorists and our young women to victims of the sex trade.

For those who have made a vocation of “explaining” why Achebe was not awarded the Nobel Prize and diminishing him in the process, I have just three words: shame on you!

(Inset is Ayo Aluko-Olokun)

Last week, my boss and former colleague at the Concord Press of Nigeria Limited, publishers of the trail-blazing CONCORD titles wrote a piece querying why the State Government of Osun decided to launch the computer tablet of knowledge branded “Opon Imo” in Lagos when it was meant to be used in Osun schools. He also tried to impute sleaze into the financial gains recorded by the state.

I make bold to say that Ayo Aluko-Olokun is by all standard, a torch bearer in the journalism profession. He had always been an incisive, deep, hardworking reporter of all seasons. He was the eagle-eye of the financial desk of Concord Group in those glorious days of fearless and daring journalism. He was on the editorial team of Midweek Concord where Kehinde Bamigbetan, my Editor at THE COUNTRY newspaper put together that penetrating business-oriented Mid-week Concord together for finance experts, investors, captains of industries, shareholders, government officials and even fellow reporters to make valid and strategic choices.

The piece retained the fire that was typical and representative of Ayo Aluko-Olokun. What I found unacceptable was the outright misplacement of facts that was unlike my boss. The Ayo Aluko Olokun that tutored me was a numeric, in-depth, colourful, mayoral and catholic in his analyses of national, economic and socio-political discourse.

This latest piece, to me, appears courageous but skewed, narrow without latitude, expansive sans the fire of expertise and gorgeous but draped with stinking partisanship that was unlike the balanced professionalism of Ayo Aluko-Olokun. This is where I suspected foul play. I am fully aware that in the run up to the 2014 governorship poll in Osun, several claimants would come open with assertions; truculent, virulent, orchestrated with some others bizarre – all done in a bid to secure the golden stool.

Holders of caustic but sublime opinions most often put their words in the hitherto believable mouths of long-tested professionals to refine and market to the reading public. At this stage, such professionals sometimes called publicists have a responsibility to ensure that the golden maxim “facts are sacred, comments are free” should be upheld so as to avoid misleading the reading public. The Ayo Aluko-Olokun piece clearly fell below the mark and for this I chose to join issues with my former boss.
His words: “I was privileged to sit beside a top politician from Lagos State at a function recently. In the first 20 minutes, I could not contain the barrage of questions hauled at me about Aregbesola”. This clearly demonstrated that Ayo did not write his piece based on conviction but prodded to do so by extraneous political operators who have scores to settle with an opponent.

Opon Imo is a revolution in how to achieve sound, respectable public education. As he used to do in those years of our professional engagements, I had expected Ayo to have undertaken a visit to Osun to explore the nitty-gritty of the new idea that has not been tested anywhere before choosing to put pen to paper. For starters, it is surprising that Ayo is angry that the Opon Imo tablet contains 63 e-textbooks, clearly more than eight textbooks for eight subjects that he questionably suggested.
If what Ayo wrote should be taken as a standard for the child of the ordinary Nigerians in the State of Osun who had no choice than to send their children to public secondary schools, then we should return to the glorious days of Chief Ajibola Idowu Ige, then Governor of Oyo State who distributed textbooks freely to students under the yet-to-be-rivalled free education policy of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). As a young secondary school leaver, alongside Mr Raimi Ajani, I was a staff of the Central Schools Board, Ibadan, put in charge of issuing textbooks to students of Ejigbo Baptist High School, Ejigbo in the present State of Osun. At that time, students had more than one textbook per subject. There were varieties particularly in the sciences. If Ayo’s script on Opon Imo is to be believed, how many textbooks should a student have to write a subject like Literature in English? Should it just be one textbook so as to comply with Ayo’s curious standard that failed both the tests of altitude and aptitude?

Was Ayo true to and serving his own conscience before pushing out his latest script? If so, I challenge him to make public the number of textbooks supplied to his biological children who have attended or are still attending high-paying private schools and their total cost. If he can make this public, then we start a public discuss on what should be the lot of the children of the less privileged Nigerians who have no other choice than to attend a publicly-funded school.
Opon Imo has 63 e-books; 56 academic and 7 non-academic books. When we began our high-level discussions on how to arrive at Opon Imo, we unanimously agreed to have a computer tablet that is each pre-loaded with all the textbooks needed by every student in in the state’s secondary schools. It is designed not to be discriminatory as a child could have the opportunity of roving between the sciences, social sciences, the arts and humanities. Ayo’s postulation therefore is at best hypothetical.

Francis Bacon settled the matter when he said “Reading maketh a man, writing maketh a perfect man”. Giving the children of the ordinary citizens in public secondary schools the window of opportunity out to the world to realize their full potentials is a task that must be done no matter whose ox in the dubious elite class is gored. Apart from the 56 textbooks, we have loaded each of the tablets with the past questions set by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in the past ten years covering seventeen subjects. I am compelled to ask again whether Ayo ever took a copious but careful look at the curriculum studies schedule of secondary schools before sitting down to write his offensive piece?
At an average cost of N1,000.00 per hard copy of a textbook, the cost of 63 textbooks therefore comes to N63000.00 per student. If Ayo multiplies N63,000.00 by 150,000 students, it definitely comes to N9.45billion. This is the situation unless we are up against dubious mathematics which Ayo referred to as bogus.

It also includes questions set by the Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) past questions covering the last ten years, seven extra volumes including the Holy Bible, the Quran, personal health module, sex education, fitness bits and other life-changing texts. All these were designed to ensure that the saying of Chief Obafemi Awolowo that any child who lacks required textbooks for learning would suffer psychological mal-nutrition is jealously observed. We have done all these without being apologetic.

Having realised the damage done to the infrastructural situation of Nigeria since 1999 by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the federal level, power supply situation has become a cesspool of sleaze. Yes, we realised that Opon Imo needed regular charging to remain functional. We then conducted our discreet research which was confirmed by Nigeria’s tele-density data that there is hardly a hamlet in Nigeria where there is signal and connectivity that people do not now use the GSM handset. Rural dwellers charge their handsets to remain open to the world.

If it is possible to charge the GSM handsets in rural dwellings, secondary school students should have no challenge in charging their Opon Imo. The poor man’s child should not be left behind in the race towards achieving a sane society. I am sure that Ayo’s children are possibly each having i-pads at home as toy. If they do not have one each, they must be having access to the one owned by the father. Sauce for the goose ought to indubitably be sauce for the gander.

Did Ayo take note of the new initiative of JAMB that conducted this least UTME examination through the electronic testing portal? E-learning is now the way to acquisition of knowledge. Our children should not be left behind.

Ayo was piqued to no end that Opon Imo was unfolded in Lagos. How would he have felt if he was at Harvard University where Professors were stunned at the concept and format of Opon Imo. During Aregbe sola’s visit to the USA, the tablet was made public and explanations were made on what it was designed to achieve. It was to the consternation of his audience in the United States of America (USA) that Opon Imo was applauded as an innovation from what had derisively been referred to as a dark continent. An American Professor told the gathering of egg-heads at Harvard that Opon Imo will “take the pain from away from the back of school children”. This is so because children would no longer have to carry loads of textbooks on their backs daily to and from school.

No responsible administration will toy with the future of its upcoming generation. Curiously, the rot of the seven-and-half years of the PDP administration that played Nintendo with the education of Osun children did not catch his attention. Could Ayo have made himself available for the services of our people’s traducers who watched idly by as Osun descended to the 35th poorest state in the examination conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO) in 2009? With combined efforts of the government, teachers and parents, Osun became 32nd in 2010 and it has improved tremendously since then and is now the eight best in Nigeria.

What then should be the fate of our children in public secondary schools if we do not now observe the golden words of the Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka couched in one of his books that we must begin at dawn? Does Ayo Aluko-Olokun want to sentence our children to psychological malnutrition that Chief Obafemi Awolowo long ago warned us against? Definitely, Ayo Aluko-Olokun was better than this and he can still do better than his last meagre act.

Former militant leader, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari, has predicted that embattled Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, “will go the way he came.”

Amaechi broke a record in 2007 when he came to power without contesting election but by virtue of a Supreme Court verdict after the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) removed his name from the ballot at the late hour. Even though he contested and won a second term in 2007, Dokubo might have been referring to the manner he originally assumed power in 2007.

Amaechi, according to Dokubo, Founder and leader of the Niger Delta People’s Salvation Front/Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, is corrupt and does not deserve to remain in office.

“We will not hide under any other organization to fight the monumental mis-governance and corruption that goes on in Rivers State,” he wrote last night on his Facebook wall. “No person with an atom of morality will support a government that annually squander 3 billion dollars . . . Rotimi Amaechi will go the way he came,” Dokubo added.

His outburst came hours after an estimated 10,000 men, women, and youths marched in Port Harcourt to demand for the resignation of Governor Amaechi, who has irked the Nigerian Government by allegedly opposing President Goodluck Jonathan. During the march, held two days ahead of the election of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) in which Amaechi insists on contesting for a second term against the wishes of the Presidency, the protesters called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the governor for alleged corruption.

A very big disaster was averted last Sunday, May 19th, when an SAA South African Airways Airbus A340-600, registration ZS-SNG performing flight SA-60 from Johannesburg (South Africa) to Lagos (Nigeria) conveying over 300 people developed an electrical fault in Mid-air.

This information was gotten from someone on the flight was surprised that it’s not in the news.

According to him, he was on the flight that faithful day..it was a night flight and he was listening to music from his Ipod when he perceived a foul burning odor, he thought the white man sitting next to him had farted but he knew it something more serious when he noticed people panicking.

He pulled his headphones and asked the white guy sitting next to him why people where panicking, all the white man was saying was ’’this plane is going to crash! This plane s going to crash!..all of a sudden the lighting system in the aircraft went off…everyone was mad with fear.. some started praying others brought out their blackberries and started pinging, some started calling loved ones and telling them their last wishes.

The captain then announced that the plane had developed an electrical fault and they were going to have an emergency landing. The pilot then turned the plane around and headed back to South Africa. It was also revealed that it was then he saw 2face Idibia walk past him and when he looked back he saw the popstar talking and calming his crew down, telling them not to panic.

After 45 minutes, the captain announced that they were going to ‘dump the fuel’ i.e remove all the jet fuel on the plane, this is a precautionary step taken by pilots whenever a plane is going to crash or whenever there is a risk of fire. As they were about to land, another problem came up. The captain announced that the tires of the plane could not come out, by then everyone on the plane had given up.

Miraculously, the tires came out and the plane successfully landed and the passengers were evacuated. Other passengers were taken to the arrival lounge, that was when he met Tony Anenih’s wife, Josephine, they talked and exchanged cards.

After much investigation, it was a kettle that sparked in the kitchen that affected the whole electrical system of the plane.

DailyPost has gathered that the exercise was executed by the State internal Generated Revenue Monitoring Team on the order of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Olufemi Fawole.

Mr. Fawole who said that teaching and learning must be done in line with standards and best practises for better understanding and assimilation, expressed surprise at the deplorable state of the schools.

On the drive for IGR, the Permanent Secretary acknowledged the cooperation of some of the private school owners for prompt payment of renewal and registration fees.
